Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado Javier Portús, Gabriele Finaldi

The Museo Nacional del Prado, one of the world's great art museums, holds the definitive collection of Spanish painting and is home to one of the most significant collections of Flemish and Italian paintings from the 12th to early 19th centuries. These riches were amassed by successive Spanish monarchs whose Royal Collections were the foundation of the Prado when it was established in 1819.

Portrait of Spain includes 79 oil paintings spanning mythological, historical, genre and religious scenes, along with spectacular still lifes, portraits and landscapes. A selection of 22 prints from three extraordinary series by Goya — Los Caprichos, Los Desastres de la Guerra and Los Disparates— are among the highlights of this exhibition curated by Javier Portús.
